One Artist's Fractal Universe

Join us for an enlightening talk by Lianne Todd (FractaLiArt), a biologist turned artist, as she takes us on a captivating journey through her artistic exploration of the fractal nature of our universe. Raised on a farm in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, Lianne's unique perspective blends her scientific education with a profound fascination for the natural world.

From Lianne Todd

"As an artist with a scientific education, my creations come primarily from careful observation of the universe around me. In my compulsion to draw, paint, photograph, and create digital images, lies my desire to understand the underlying patterns we share with all life and with all matter. Textures, shapes, colours, structures and repetitions on every scale seem important to our ultimate grasp of how and why we came to be here, and what possibilities lie in our future. When I look at fractals, I often see everyday things, and when I look at everyday things, I often see fractals. Benoit Mandelbrot called it the "geometry of nature". My fractal art is an attempt to bring a similar idea to light: Fractal geometry may be not just a model for, but actually the underlying structure of our universe."
