About Us
Scientifically Speaking is a science communication, education and youth-focused engagement organisation working across the United Kingdom and Nigeria. We exist to improve how science and health knowledge is developed, shared and used by connecting research, innovation, youth development, gender inclusion, public engagement and creative practice.
We design and deliver structured non-formal learning programmes, youth leadership initiatives and cross-sector partnerships that equip young people, particularly young women and underrepresented groups, with the skills, confidence and networks to engage actively in society and contribute to global challenges.
We work with researchers, youth organisations, women-led networks, institutions, industry, communities and funders to support research innovation, coordination and impact, ensuring that scientific knowledge moves beyond the lab and into real-world decision-making, careers, entrepreneurship and civic life.
Our Expertise in STEM and Creative Impact
Scientifically Speaking’s expertise lies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with particular strength in health, life sciences and global health research.
We work at the intersection of research, innovation and creativity. Our approach combines academic rigour with creative practice to amplify impact, strengthen visibility and increase meaningful engagement.
We use creative methods not as decoration, but as strategic tools to:
-
Translate complex research into accessible narratives
-
Support interdisciplinary collaboration
-
Increase public understanding and trust
-
Strengthen youth engagement and participation
-
Enhance research visibility and societal impact
-
Through Creative STEM and Creative Health, we develop storytelling platforms, visual communication, participatory experiences and engagement models that extend the reach and relevance of research outputs.
Our work ensures that scientific knowledge is not only produced, but understood, experienced and applied.

Meet the Team
Scientifically Speaking is led by award-winning pharmacist, pharmaceutical scientist, senior academic and global science communicator Dr Bahijja Raimi-Abraham, Founder and Chief Executive Officer.
Dr Raimi-Abraham established Scientifically Speaking to strengthen the connection between research, creativity and society. Her vision is to ensure that science moves beyond academic environments into meaningful real-world impact, particularly for young people and women navigating education, careers, leadership and civic participation.
In addition to her academic and research leadership, she serves as the FIPWiSE (Women in Science and Education Initiative at the International Pharmaceutical Federation) Chair, contributing to international dialogue on gender equity and leadership in science and health.
Scientifically Speaking operates through a focused team responsible for driving and delivering its programmes across the United Kingdom and Nigeria, with expertise spanning youth development, research coordination, creative communication and cross-sector partnership management.
Together, the team combines academic expertise, creative practice and operational discipline to deliver high-quality, programme-led work that strengthens youth participation, advances women’s leadership in science and innovation, builds professional capacity and promotes inclusive engagement across learning, research and society.
What we do
Our work is delivered through three connected programmes, SS Learn, SS Engage and SS Create.
Together, they support the full science–society pipeline while centring youth development, non-formal learning, gender inclusion and international collaboration.
Youth and gender equity are embedded across programme design, delivery and partnerships.
SS Learn
Training, youth development, capacity building and research innovation
SS Learn supports young people, early-career professionals and organisations to strengthen research skills, innovation capacity and career pathways through structured non-formal learning and professional development.
Through SS Learn, we equip young people, particularly young women and emerging leaders, with the competencies, confidence and networks needed to contribute to global challenges.
SS Engage
Dialogue, participation and civic connection
SS Engage creates structured spaces for dialogue, participation and cross-sector collaboration, with a strong focus on youth voice and inclusive engagement.
Through events, festivals, international exchanges and professional forums, we bring science into public and community settings in accessible and relevant ways.
SS Create
Creative storytelling and inclusive science communication
SS Create uses storytelling, design and creative methods to communicate science and health in ways that centre youth perspectives, gender equity and lived experience.
Through Creative STEM and Creative Health, we develop content, campaigns and participatory experiences that connect evidence with culture and civic identity.
Project and Research Coordination
We work with private sector, businesses, industry cross-sector partners to design, manage and coordinate projects with academic elements.
We understand the operational, ethical and reporting requirements of research environments, and we design projects that balance academic credibility with inclusive participation and real-world impact.
Our coordination expertise includes supporting proposal development, facilitating collaboration across regions, integrating engagement into research design, and managing delivery across the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
